PUTTING FISH ONLINE IN WISCONSIN’S NORTHWOODS.

When the Wisconsin fishing season opens this Saturday, May 4, three northern Wisconsin counties (Vilas, Oneida and Price) and the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe Indians hope to see more anglers on their 2, 900 lakes.

During the past six months, the counties and tribal representatives have worked together to promote fishing in Wisconsin’s northwoods by launching a new Web site. At northwoodsfishing.com, fishing enthusiasts of all ability levels can find boatloads of information about fishing, guides, boat rentals, bait shops and accommodations.

Visitors to northwoodsfishing.com can also get the latest fishing reports and immediately link to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ Web site to brush up on the latest fishing regulations. By late April, 400 people per month were visiting the Web site. Officials expect that number to rise sharply in the coming weeks as Wisconsin’s fishing season gets underway.
